Uche brought the heat during Sunday's "American Idol" episode.
The Houston native was the easy standout of the Top 14 round, performing an electric and sultry spin on Bruno Mars' "Finesse," complete with gyrating dance moves and smooth vocals that left Katy Perry splayed across the judges' table.
Co-judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan had to jokingly resuscitate the pop star, who exclaimed, "Excuse me. Are we allowed to show that performance on television? I mean, whatever happens in this competition, just keep swinging. You're going to hit."
"That was, like, the opening of the best awards show I've ever been to," Bryan added.
"Young man, let me tell you something: You are wonderful," Richie concluded. "What you've managed to do every time is you're the show-stopper. Keep this going."
Other favorites of the night included Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon, who brought Katy Perry to tears with his take on Elton John's "Sometimes We All Fall in Love," and Laci Kaye Booth's countrified spin on Blink 182's "I Miss You."
"American Idol" continues on ABC Monday (8 EDT/PDT) with results from its live show, which will narrow down the reality singing competition to 10 hopefuls.
