Ruby Rose's Batwoman costume has taken flight, even if the star's casting didn't necessarily.
In an image released by The CW Tuesday, Rose is clad in her superhero garb: a form-fitting black uniform, accented by a fiery shade of red, including a bat emblazoned on her chest. Rose also sports coordinating, shoulder-length locks.
Rose began filming her spot on The CW’s Arrowverse crossover today in Vancouver, to air in December. Batwoman, aka Kate Kane, was reintroduced to DC Comics in 2006 as a lesbian street fighter, and while LGBTQ characters appear prominently in other DC series, if the project becomes a series, she would be the first to lead one.
Rose's casting was announced in August, a polarizing decision. While stars like Laverne Cox and Janelle Monáe congratulated the star, others shaded her acting abilities and wished a lesser-known "lesbian actress" was cast. (Rose identifies as queer.)
On Tuesday, Twitter celebrated the crime-fighting ensemble.
"The suit looks fabulous," a user raved. "It's everything I could have hoped for. Seeing her brought to life like this is more than I ever dreamed for you."
"On an actually positive note though, Ruby Rose looks (expletive) amazing as #Batwoman in #Arrow," a NSFW tweet read.
"There is literally no hate you can give to #rubyrose now that suit looks so good!" shared another. "Can't get any more comic book accurate, i for one can not wait to see her in action as #Batwoman!!"
The costume was good enough to even impress a Rose's hater.
"Love the costume, dislike Ruby Rose as an actor immensely," an account posted.
